NEW DELHI: Union information and technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday said that “digital democracy is the essence of India and MyGovIndia is the biggest platform that showcases it.”

“In two years, MyGovIndia has become an example of participative democracy through digital medium,” the IT minister said at an event to mark two years of the MyGov platform.

“We could have very easily celebrated the two years of the NDA government at a hotel, but PM Modi asked us to visit different parts of the country and interact with people. We have to remain connected digitally and personally,” Prasad said.

The MyGov initiative was launched two years ago to enable citizens directly interact with the government by giving suggestion about better governance.

“Those who think for the country and work for its development have been given a platform to participate,” Prasad said, addressing the inaugural session of “The Spirit of Participatory Democracy with MyGov”.

“I would like MyGovIndia to become a platform to showcase achievements of those common people who don’t get space on TV,” he said.

In the evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to interact with around 2,000 people in his first-ever Town Hall-style programme.

The audience has been selected from among the regular users of MyGov platform, who have pitched in “quality suggestions” for various government programmes.
